TFP: TARTA response, honoring Robert Brundage, Red Lights and more…

12 Feb 2010

Waterville Mayor Derek Merrin’s piece on TARTA based on the premise that limo’s would be cheaper generated some discussion online, it also created a response from James Gee of TARTA in this week’s Toledo Free Press, TARTA: Sales tax is more equitable.

I focus on When red lights equal green in my Shredding the Curtain column this week, sharing a page in print with Don Burnard, who writes about Dysfunction junction in the Hot Corner. Tim Higgins shares his thoughts on The courage of one’s convictions.

Michael Miller’s column this week is the result of his recent reading of John Chrysochoos’ book “In Reason We Trust”. I’ve added it to my list of books I’d like to read…

Fans of High School Football, especially St. Francis fans will enjoy this week’s cover story, Cromwell steps down as Knights head coach and efforts are underway to find a way to honor the late Robert Brundage, details are included in the story for those of you who want to play a role in that effort.

I found TARTA’s response laughable. Often when you can’t win an argument you change the subject, and that’s what TARTA resorted to.

Merrin wasn’t questioning the source of funding, but the value of TARTA service for Waterville residents in light of the cost. TARTA is oversized, expensive, and rarely used by suburban communities. TARTA offered no ideas, no vision to make services more responsive or efficient, and instead just offered new ways to milk taxpayers out of their hard earned money.

On running red lights and busting the camera:

Councilman D. Michael Collins: No genius but no dummy.

Councilwoman Lindsay Webb: Do nothing, even if it’s wrong.

    Councilman Rob Ludeman: Dumb.

    Councilman Adam Martinez: Ignorant.

Councilman George Sarantou: Smart but has no heart.

Councilman Mike Craig: Me too! Me too! (Ignorant and knows it)

Council President Wilma Brown: So stupid and ignorant the rest look like pure geniuses and Noble class humanitarians.
