Fund Raising Effort Set For Family Of Mandy Kimbler
(Toledo, OH) – Friends and relatives of Mandy Kimbler, the 24-year old Lucas County pregnant woman who died in November from ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome) due to H1N1, have announced a fund raising effort to help with the medical needs of her family.
Ms. Kimbler entered Toledo Hospital on October 25, 2009 with breathing problems. Doctors started treating her for H1N1, also known as Swine Flu. They put Ms. Kimbler in a medically-induced coma and performed an emergency C-section on her to save her twin boys. Ms. Kimbler never regained consciousness. She died on November 5th never seeing her newborns. Her twin boys, Brayden and Bradley, who were born nearly eleven-weeks premature, are still being closely watched. Ms. Kimbler also left behind a 3-year-old daughter Mahala.
Ms. Kimbler’s husband, David, 26, has been left with the challenging task of raising three children by himself. With that outlook, friends and relatives have stepped forward to help raise money for the couple’s three children.
“The biggest concern is the twins. They were born premature and for the first year of their lives they will need special medical care,” said Michelle Downes who is a cousin of Ms. Kimbler and organizer of this fund raiser.
On January 9, 2010, a Kimbler Family Fund Benefit featuring a spaghetti dinner, raffles, and music will be held at St Clement’s Church Hall at 3030 Tremainsville Road from 4 – 9 pm. The price will be $8 for adults; $6 for senior citizens; and $5 for children.
“Mandy was a health energetic woman,” said Ms. Downes. “She was the last person you would ever expect to have contracted this deadly illness. We need to spread the word and get pregnant women to get their H1N1 flu shot. No family should ever have to go through what we have gone through.”
A special fund has been established at Fifth-Third Bank for people unable to attend the event. Donations can be made in the name of the Kimbler Children Benefit Dinner Fund.

December 31st, 2009 at 4:33 pmThis is ridiculous!!! This benefit is not needed. All medical bills for Mandy and the twins are already covered, past and future. I know for a fact that Mandy’s husband doesnt even support this benefit and will not accept any contributions or proceeds related to January 9, 2010’s benefit.
December 31st, 2009 at 4:44 pmI am mandy kimblers sister. this benefit is not only for medical bills its for future help in anything they need. this person is no family member and has nothing to do with the benefit.
January 3rd, 2010 at 3:40 pmObviously Chubz has been seriously misinformed. and Kelli is correct when she writes that this is no member of either the Emahiser or Kimbler family. The family has already encountered what they call a “snafu” with health insurance coverage. Mandy was given an H1N1 drug approved by the state, but not by the health insurance company. Now the health insurance company is balking at paying a bill that is over $200,000. While there is some insurance coverage for the children through the husband’s employer, the family says co-pays will not be covered. As of the first of the year, the family has yet to see the bill for the twins — Both spent seven weeks in the hospital. One had to make a return visit after Christmas. The family can only imagine what that bill will be. Finally, due to the fact that the twins were nearly 11-weeks premature, they will require close monitoring and frequent check-ups for at least the first year. David Kimbler has given his blessing to this event and will work with the committee. The fund at Fifth-Third Bank is beyond reproach as it requires two signatures for withdrawls. The committee will make payments based on medical invoices or other need assessments for the children. There are no administrative costs with this benefit — All money goes to children. I am very disappointed that an “outsider” would attempt to cast a questionable shadow over an event that so many have helped to organize.
