Unfortunately, for Carty, he has no authority to instruct that flags be flown at half-staff. Only the President and governor of a state have that authority.

Additionally, flag etiquette dictates that flags be flown at full staff on Veteran’s Day, which is probably why Gov. Strickland worded his order the way he did.

Please fly your flags at full staff on Veteran’s Day.

(Flag etiquette – and not following it – is a pet peeve of mine…
