First two officers caught drinking while driving, now two fail drug test…
25 Nov 2009
It can’t be said morale is low anymore because of the layoffs…but something is going on with the Toledo Police Department. I just got done watching FOX Toledo, that is reporting, 2 Toledo officers fail drug test. What bothers me most about this is, I know police officers are human, they make the same mistakes the rest of us do at times, yet, they are the ones who are supposed to uphold the law. The names of the two officers that failed the drug test have not been released.
More policemen drinking and taking
street drugs? Yes, probably a lot more that are and have been doing them but have been overlooked even with
good clues by fellow officers or just
not caught yet.
More than likely quite a few firemen, etc are and have been doing the same.
The mentality of most people in this country is that they not do what they preach to

On the bright side, the city won’t have to lay them off. Or do they have a 3 strike policy for drug use in the contract?
November 26th, 2009 at 9:11 amPTSD from all the time of working at TPD, So this is what they were doing when they were sitting at Northtowne Mall Parking lot side by side with a maroon truck for a period of 45 mins.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:34 amThe irony would be if they turned out to be narcotics officers.
Substance abuse in Police and Fire Departments has been documented nationally for decades as higher than average as a result of the nature of the job. What many of them see and deal with on a daily basis is often a rational for the abuse. While some find healthy ways to deal with the stress of an often obscene job, some fall victim to escaping by quick and intoxicating behavior.
It’s common knowledge that once in the fraternity of men and women who make up these valuable and often burdensome jobs, you are under the protection of your fellow co-workers. This mentality often means that many are either ignored or overlooked in the name of brotherhood.
What I find sad is that real friends and a real brotherhood wouldn’t let you fall victim without trying to help you help yourself. “Family” should be the front line of making sure all the members are healthy, happy and well adjusted

November 26th, 2009 at 9:45 amChad thats kind of a silly statement to make. What “Fraternity” of protection are you talking about ?? 2 guys with on duty DUI’s and 2 guys failing a drug test ?? Where is the protection. If they had been protected you wouldn’t have read about them in the paper would you ??
I’m sure you know all about my job and what I need to function day to day. You seem to be spouting some real “touchy feel good” advice that don’t mean squat.
Substance abuse (alcohol) is probably higher in the police and fire service, but nationally drug use is the lowest of any profession as most departments are tested. This is the FIRST drug test that has been given to TPD officers EVER.
Don’t get me wrong I want anyone thats doing drugs out. PERIOD. But don’t even think for one moment that you “understand” us or know what we have been through.
TPD
November 28th, 2009 at 11:27 pmI think my past comments on this site have always been pro-police, however these 4 need to be releived of duty ASAP and not brought back. I agree with TPD that it is a stressful job an most will never know the daily horrors officers encounter. However when our boys in blue begin using the same excuses as criminals to deflect critisim for drug use they become nothing more than criminals themselves, just trying to justify their criminal behavior. Please do the city a favor and resign quickly
