Lucas County Announces New Program For Businesses
TOLEDO, OH – The Lucas County Workforce Development Agency (LCWDA) is launching a new program designed to help businesses and workers by providing training funds made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Project HIRE (Hometown Investments in Regional Economies) allows businesses that hire dislocated workers to apply for up to $6,000 per individual to cover the cost of training the new workers. Training may either be conducted on-the-job at the business or workers can be enrolled in training programs with approved educational institutions.
A kickoff event for the project is planned for Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10 am in the Birch Room at the Hilton Hotel on the University of Toledo Medical Center campus. Reservations for businesses interested in attending can be made by calling 419.213.6316.
The Federally funded program is a partnership between the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Ohio Department of Development and regional One-Stop Employment Centers throughout the state. The One-Stop Center servicing Lucas County is The Source Northwest Ohio, located in Downtown Toledo at 1301 Monroe Street.
Since opening the doors in 2004, The Source has helped hundreds of businesses hire more than 10,000 workers through job posting and referral.
