If you ride TARTA, you should be aware of the proposed changes…

20 Oct 2009

The following information was taken from the TARTA website, I recommend visiting, TARTA since the actual routes that will be impacted, and those that will not be impacted are listed on the website. I urge you to either attend or to submit your comments in writing before the deadline if you are concerned about any of the proposed changes.

Proposed 2010 TARTA Service and Route Changes
To go into effect Sunday, December 27, 2009

The following is a draft of proposed TARTA service changes to be effective as of Sunday, December 27, 2009.

These proposed changes may be reviewed for public comment at two separate Open House Public Hearings: Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.; and 5:00 through 8:00 p.m. at the Authority’s offices located at 1127 West Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43610 (accessible by TARTA route 20 daytime; 20/24 evening).

Public comment at the hearings will be used as part of the official record for final route planning and implementation purposes.

Comments may also be made in writing to James K. Gee, General Manager, Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority, P.O. Box 792, Toledo, Ohio 43697-0792. Comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2009 to be included as part of the official record for final route planning and implementation purposes.

As TARPS operates the same hours as TARTA, paratransit service hours will also be affected.

Personally two of the routes I use are going to be changed, one is being changed to every 45 minutes instead of every 30 minutes, 32R, and 34H is changing since 34K is being eliminated but it does not appear that will impact the portion of the route I’m on. One of the main concerns will be for those who need to ride the bus towards the end of the day since the switch from 30 minutes to 45 minutes could create difficulties for those who rely on the last bus of the night.

If hours are less on Sundays and no
Tarta or TARPS on Holidays some people do work
on Sunday and will not be even able
able to go to relatives for a holiday!
Stay at home alone for Thanksgiving
    and Christmas for many!

I think they could save some money, and maybe some needed routes, if they terminated some of the east side routes that are riderless. And of course the routes that service Perrysburg. This is an obvious waste of money, in my opinion, and is only being perpetrated to maintain a farce that forces Perrysburg to continue to be a party of Tarta.

At this point, the elimination of Sunday is not listed on the TARTA site for all routes, some will still be running on Sunday, though shorter hours. The elimination of holiday service is, but it would take place after this Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. That would however have an impact on those who do work holidays and those who rely on TARTA to visit relatives. That’s why it’s important those impacted let TARTA know.

When I looked again, I noticed while it says 34H will not be impacted, that’s not really accurate since all 34 runs will be eliminated Saturday, Sunday and holidays. That means no bus here at all since there is no 32R on weekends. Several other areas are also looking at having no bus service on Saturday, Sunday or holidays.

If you look at the list Not Again, some of the routes you’d mentioned in the past seeing as riderless are being eliminated.

Does anyone know what happened to all
the talk about TARTA wanting to change
from a property tax to a sales tax??

They needed the support of all of the member communities currently participating in TARTA. That did not happen.

Good news Lisa, thanks. About time.

    Thanks Lisa Renee.

I believe that the sales tax would
better than the property tax, so I
hope they will try again in the near
    future.
