Report on how many working Ohioans who receive public health care to be released tomorrow
This in via e-mail from United Food and Commercial Workers of Ohio:
United Food and Commercial Workers Unions of Ohio (UFCW), Rep. Dan Stewart and Rep. Kenny Yuko to Release Public Benefits Disclosure Report
WHO: Representative Dan Stewart (D-Columbus), Representative Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and representatives of UFCW
WHAT: Representative Stewart and Representative Yuko and representatives of UFCW Local unions throughout Ohio will be releasing an Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services report that quantifies, by employer, the number working men and woman who have to rely upon taxpayer-supported programs for their healthcare and assistance to feed their families instead of employer-provided programs and living wages. Stewart and Yuko will be discussing legislation that will systematize the release of this reporting and highlight the disparities between corporate greed and the struggles of hard-working Ohioans. Representative Bob Hagan (D-Youngstown), who is introducing the legislation in the Ohio House of Representatives, was to attend but his return to Columbus has been delayed. Senator Jim Hughes (R- Columbus) will be introducing companion legislation in the Ohio Senate is also unable to attend the event.
WHERE: Ohio Statehouse – Atrium Columbus, OH 43215
WHEN: Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 10:30 A.M.
WHY: Thousands of Ohioans are struggling – many are without or cannot afford healthcare coverage. Representative Stewart and Representative Yuko and the United Food and Commercial Workers unions believe that it is important that Ohioans should know the truth – there is a laundry list of Ohio corporations that have the ability to provide affordable healthcare coverage and a living wage to workers, but refuse to do so. Instead corporations use the taxpayer-supported safety net so they can pad the salaries of their executives and increase profit margins.
As an administrative note, the report released in 2006 is a helpful guide and will be interesting to compare to what is reported tomorrow.
