Mike Bell opens campaign office in Point Place…

29 Sep 2009

What’s also interesting about the story as reported on by Fox Toledo is the video. Embedding still slows the blog down so head over watch. Can’t wait to find out who is in the video with mayoral candidate Mike Bell? Check below the fold.

Former Lucas County Democratic Chairperson, John Irish…

Good eye, Lisa Renee. Maybe Irish will give Bell a platform. Then he and his fellow Republicans can reconcile their Bell support with the fact that Bell has never held a private sector job (and under GOP orthodoxy thus has no business being in government). Contrast this with Wilko, who besides running the City Law Department has been a partner in various private practice law firms for the past 15 years. He thus has been responsible for making payroll, paying municipal and payroll and Social Security and income taxes, paying quarterly workers comp premiums, paying rent and utilities, he has had to pay liability insurance, and has had to comply with OSHA, collect from deadbeat clients, and worry about getting sued — you know, all the things the right wingers insist is a prerequisite for government service.

I’m thinking John Irish wouldn’t be involved in having the “Republican Mantra” shoved down his throat.

No, his presence shows the bi-partisan support for Bell is still alive.

The only “plus” I see with Wilkowski is that he’ll have no need for a budget for his administration, seeing he’ll run the city all by himself…

Lisa MUST be a Wilkowski plant. She’s trying to get republicans to not vote for the I who is really a D by telling us a D is helping out the I/D and wanting Rs to switch to the other D. She is fighting the stereotype of the I who is really a D that has Rs and Ds helping him. Besides, as previous posters have said, ALL Rs are scared of the I/D. They don’t know what to do with that “frightening” skin color. GASP!

Yeah Bell had no responsibilities himself as Fire Chief!

Damn Tom, you nailed me, it took forever to get Fox to get that video and now you’ve ruined it all.

Seriously though, in the absence of a republican candidate, which is not uncommon for Toledo, those who are not “I will only vote endorsed D” Democrats have been faced with the A or the B Team Democrat before. The only difference now is instead of the B Team label the Independent label is being used. Will that turn out to have been the right campaign strategy for Bell? We’ll find out in November.

Being Bell grew up in the North End and his parents are still there I have issues with this Point Place Office. Just kidding. If it weren’t for the Point Place kids getting shipped to the North End schools, we would have been in trouble long ago. Their high test scores ketp our schools going for decades. LOL. Just kidding folks, I am in one of those good moods today. The sun finally came out. I do have two daughters that graduated from Woodward HS on The National Honor Society. They both graduated this decade and are in college. @LisaRanee is throwing the fact that you are a Ind and not necessarily a Rep or Dem a plus or a minus? As you said ” We will see in November”. I will add that my family and I did vote a few weeks ago and we did not all vote for the same person to be our next Mayor. If we vote for the same person what would we have to debate about?
You should see us when Ohio State plays Michigan. A home divided but “oh so much fun”.

Tina, that’s why I’m married to a conservative who’s also a Michigan fan, it makes life never boring.

I’m not certain if the “Independent” label will help or hurt him, a good majority of the voters in Toledo don’t identify with a party, though they do tend to vote Democrat, but it’s also created the opportunity for the Democratic party to more actively campaign against him than they would have been able to do had he ran as an unendorsed Democrat. Which leads me to believe it might have been better for him to have not created that opportunity. If I’m wrong? We’ll find out in November.

Chad (#4) That’s a public post. You have failed to counter my point, that being that Bell has zero private sector experience, which until recently was a GOP qualification for public office. And if you’re gonna credit Bell’s service with TFD, then you have to also credit Wilko for his service as law director.

Lisa Renee (#5) Well stated IMO.

Brian (#2) Irish not interested in having the GOP mantra shoved down his throat? I have 3 words: Ray. Kest. 2001.

Finally, Lisa Renee: Off topic, I know, but can you please start a post on the four finalists (Coble, Cosme, Mandross and Miller) for the appointment to the court of appeals seat occupied by Judge Skow? (Apparently the Governor will make a final decision on Monday). As you might imagine, I’ve got some views on that, and the righties among us will be pleased to know that they’re pretty harsh on the Dem. judicial screening, endorsement and appointment “vetting” processes.

    LisaRenee Says:

Sujay, we’ll probably agree then because from what I’ve heard of this screening process it’s not been positive.

I’m actually planning on something, I was in contact with the Governor’s office earlier today in relation to some of my concerns.
