Senator Fedor releases statement on South Toledo YMCA
This in via e-mail from the office of Ohio Senator Teresa Fedor:
Senator Fedor Issues Statement Regarding South End YMCA and Press Conference Today
“I call on the Board and its leadership to arrange a meeting with the South YMCA membership and the community members including myself to get answers to our questions. I call on them to also to sit down with us and negotiate a practical and sustainable plan for a successful YMCA membership campaign.
This community wants to develop open dialogue with the YMCA leadership. We must move forward with positive consensus regarding the future of the South End YMCA.”
I concur with Senator Fedor. There are a lot of unanswered questions. First; What the #%&& is going on over at “Y” central. It seems that, at every turn, we find only “smoke and mirrors”. They want 500 new members from 14 and 09 zip codes. Do they check the zip codes of new members that sign up at other locations? Oh, and in case you want to show your support from other zip codes…. THAT’S NOT ALLOWED! I think we all know (from recent events) what is really going on. Mr Alexander WANTS the south branch closed as soon as he possibly can. And then another question: WHY? I really wish that I could understand his reasoning. It seems to me that such a HIGH PAYED, non profit CEO, would have come up with something, that would have served the community better…. and sooner.

August 21st, 2009 at 11:55 pmwere originally to help each community;
however, now they just need to bring
money, and more money, and more money
in to just pay their so call
executives. Memberships dues, donations, grants,
stimulus money, etc. etc. Do not need a so called excutive at each location. Get rid
of most of the executives and they would have
money for the programs needed!
I know I’m kind of spamming this at multiple threads here, but I think it’s very relevant (can I have forgiveness Lisa Rennee?).
This I originally posted on the news conference thread;
“Have you seen the footage at the Blades site?
The woman who was forced to correct a YMCA EMPLOYEE on civil behavior;
…. “This woman is a state senator, you cannot interrupt her”….
That was an ordained minister who was to have been a pastor at the south YMCA.
It’s a sad day when the leader of a Christian not for profit (Robert Alexander) leads his EMPLOYEES in a disruptive confrontation, and they have to be reprimanded by a MINISTER in front of cameras.
All this ugliness is compounded by the facts that;
-Alexander was joined in leading this show of ugliness by his wife, and a board members wife.
-All this is partially funded with our tax and membership dollars.
THIS IS THE HUBRIS THE YMCA HAS DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT!
ALL WE HAVE ASKED FOR THROUGHOUT, IS OPEN HONEST COMMUNICATION LEADING TO A SUSTAINABLE SOUTH YMCA.
INSTEAD OF FACILITATING COMMUNICATION, ROBERT ALEXANDER PREFERS TO BREAK THE Y’S TRUST WITH THE Y MEMBERS, AND NOW THE GREATER COMMUNITY.”
