Councilman Sarantou to Announce Candidacy for Toledo Municipal Office
Toledo City Councilman At-Large, George Sarantou, will announce on Friday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. his intention to seek election to a Toledo Municipal Office at Ottawa Park, corner of Kenwood & Gunckel.
Councilman Sarantou is serving his second term on Toledo City Council; is chairman of Council’s Finance & Budget Committee and is a Registered Representative with Brennan Financial Group, LTD. in Downtown Toledo.
Mr. Sarantou is married to Barbara and they have three daughters.
Hmm…
Isn’t George term limited as an “at large” councilman?
Which makes me wonder what position he might be seeking then, a District Councilman’s seat which doesn’t open up until the next muni election cycle, or could it be, could he mean that he’s running for Mayor?
That would be interesting if he had even a scant/mere chance of winning, but he is vulnerable because he has a track record to run either on or away from…
This announcement, I predict, will be met with lukewarm apathy, for the most part.
But what do I know?
I’ve only been really paying attention to local politics for the last 35 years or so.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:17 amThe release was creatively worded to increase interest, which now that it is after 11:00 a.m. it can be shared that Councilman Sarantou from my understanding is seeking his third council term as an at large member.
I wondered the same thing last night since the release did not state Council and it did not mention the word “re-elect” – I spoke to Councilman Sarantou last night but I promised I would not reveal his intentions until after 11:00 a.m.

June 5th, 2009 at 11:24 amI wonder if he’ll be an endorsed Republican, or whether he’ll just hold onto the (R) behind his name and run without support from the LCRP. Either way, he’s got a tough road ahead of him with a proverbial clown car of candidates running for those at-large positions. The candidates for these seats will take up a full page on the ballot by themselves!
