School in Elyria closed because one student had swine flu ODH says eat fruit and veggies…
It doesn’t appear any other students have symptoms and the one boy who reportedly had swine flu has been reportedly recovering at home and is not in danger, but? Ely Elementary School has been closed for the week on the advice of the CDC. I think it’s safe to state that some parents are over-reacting a little:
Tyrei Jones, 26, whose 8-year-old son Andrew attends the school, said he took his son to a hospital emergency room on Sunday, even though the boy didn’t have any symptoms. Jones said he also scrubbed his son’s book bag, shoes and school clothes.
Ohio’s pig farmers want you to know it’s safe to eat pork. Over in Elyria, an Associated Press article in the Chronical-Telegram asks, Pig Flu: Is it time to panic yet? and the Ohio Department of Health says to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and to exercise…no…I’m not kidding:
The Ohio Department of Health today established a toll-free information line for Ohioans with questions about swine flu.
The information line 1-866-800-1404 – is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; ODH will reassess hours of operation as the situation warrants.
To lessen their chances of becoming ill, Ohioans should: wash their hands frequently or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers if soap and water are unavailable; avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth; cover coughs and sneezes with tissue, if tissue is unavailable, cough into your sleeve; stay home when sick; and keep your distance from people with respiratory symptom. Also, getting enough rest, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and getting 30 or more minutes of physical activity most days of the week will help residents boost their immunity and reduce the chances of getting sick.
I’m waiting to see which media outlet designs a graphic for “Swine Flu Invasion 2009: Will the World End” first…

You mean something akin to our local ‘weather terrorists’ just because, *gasp*, we in Northwest Ohio are going to have a snowstorm? Egads!
