Wozniak announces training session held for social service professionals

SOCIAL SERVICE PROFESSIONALS GET TRAINING TO CONNECT FAMILIES TO THE RESOURCES THEY NEED
Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak, United Way of Greater Toledo, and Parent Representatives from the Lucas County Family Council will lead frontline government and non profit professionals through an innovative training program that ensures parents seeking services are connected to those available to them. The “Get Connected” training will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the McMaster Center at the Main Library from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For years, parents in our community have struggled to navigate the various agencies and services available in Lucas County. Many parents do not know what resources and services they are eligible for or how to find out about them. Parents may call agencies in the community trying to find help only to find a dead end or get passed along several times before finding any answers.
The training emphasizes a “No Wrong Door” approach to customer service. Utilizing United Way 2-1-1 resources, attendees will learn how to better assist families with getting connected to the help they need.
“During these difficult economic times, it is essential that families looking for assistance are connected to programs that can help them”
said Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak.
More than 150 professionals will be attending. Additionally, the training also includes a Human Service Panel with representatives from
Lucas County Children Services, Fair Housing Center (Foreclosure resources), Kinship Navigator Program, Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services, A Place for Parents, and United Way Family Information Network.
