Tune in and call in tomorrow to the last ‘Toledo Today’ with Tom Watkins

05 Feb 2009

I’ve learned earlier today that Cumulus, is laying off 11 employes, part of a corporate wide cutback that will take place tomorrow. While Tom Watkins was not one of those slated to be laid off, the mandated cut in compensation created his decision to decline. This means the program tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. with Bruce Rumpf of Job1USA and astrologer Sue Lovett as guests will be his last. Monday, Bill Bennett’s show will continue through the 9 o’clock hour.

Tom Watkins ‘Toledo Today’ program started two years ago in January. He shared that this is a friendly departure and he could return in some manner, in the future.

The show can be listed by tuning in 1560 on your AM dial or by taking advantage of the “listen live” feature on the SuperTalk1560 website. One of my favorite interviews Tom did was with Governor Strickland, shortly after he took office, I had the opportunity to ask the Governor a question about his promise to focus on education as a priority…I hope things in our area improves for all of those in the media who have seen their jobs or their hours cut, it won’t be the same without many of you.

419-725-5850 or 888-578-1560 are the numbers if you want to call in tomorrow…

Yeah it was nice talking to Tom this morning. It’s sad to see a good man like him go – but I did get a chance to thank him for his work and I even got a nice deal on my horoscope.
Missing you already Tom – I was kinda hoping to meet up with you this year for Opening Day at the MudHens.
Take care and hope to see you in the near future.
