Take Back Toledo hires Brian Schwartz
10 Dec 2008
This should make things interesting…Toledo Free Press has the release on this story. It’s stated Take Back Toledo “hired” the Mayor’s former PIO but it’s not clear if he’s being paid or if it’s a volunteer position, at least for now. I’m sure more will come out or will be reported as a part of the organization’s financial reports.
Considering the past relationship with the Mayor and Mr. Schwartz’s past brushes with controversy, the positives and the negatives of this both come to mind…
Wow…Is it me or every day something interesting happens or is reported on against Mayor Carty Finkinstein that makes this Take Back Toledo even more interesting to follow….When and where can I sign the petition…
December 10th, 2008 at 4:39 pmLast I heard, you’ll have to wait until after the first of the year, but I’m sure since WSPD will be the news headquarters for the Take Back Toledo effort that as soon as it starts? You’ll know.
December 10th, 2008 at 4:43 pmI certainly hope they investigate Brian’s residency situation first!
*giggle*
Congrats, Brian, on this fun little trip you’re on.
December 10th, 2008 at 4:47 pmBrian Maxson, I can validate my residency….I also, signed the first recall carty petition only to hear my signature went up in flames on someones grill….I just hope that time my signature will mean a little bit more this time…
December 10th, 2008 at 5:16 pmBrian, I think Brian Maxson was referring to Brian Schwartz, who does not live in Toledo…
December 10th, 2008 at 5:21 pmAhh, maybe Brian and Brian, are one in the same. But which one is the alter ego?
December 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pmOr maybe it is Brian and Brian and Brian.

This way you could contribute instead of criticize my contributions.
December 10th, 2008 at 7:03 pmOh brother (again)!
December 10th, 2008 at 7:07 pmAnyone listen to Glenn Beck’s program today? Carty and his Monday press conference were features and Glenn talked to Brian Wilson afterward. Carty is again making Toledo a national laughing stock. Thank God Chicago has cornered the corruption market.
Non residents may not be able to sign the petition, but as a former Toledo resident and Toledo income tax payer, I say get em Take Back Toledo!!!!!!!

December 11th, 2008 at 6:00 pmToledo’s problem is not corruption. It is incompetence and a lack of concern on behalf of its citizens.
Take Back Toledo is trying to make an example of Carty Finkbeienr as to what will happen to incompetence in this city and will be actively seeking and backing competent candidates for office at all levels.
If we pull this off, look for a new day of business development and attraction in this city. It won’t happen right away. It will take us a while to get the ship righted. But, with an ongoing program, we can be a successful city once again that embraces businesses and jobs.
December 12th, 2008 at 1:42 amWhat do you mean ” If ” we pull this off, Mr. Schwartz ? ‘ If ‘ leaves room for failure in your mind.
I would encourage you to get the word ‘ if ‘ out of your vocabulary and think more positively.
Maybe Not Again is right – perhaps I SHOULD become a leader in this effort. He mistook my intense belief in the need for this recall for the intensity of leadership in the cause.
At least we would have a positive attitude as we get this neccessary task completed.
December 12th, 2008 at 7:50 amno MY name is Brian Schwartz

>>Toledo’s problem is not corruption. It is incompetence and a lack of concern on behalf of its citizens.<<
You may be right about Toledo’s problem is not corruption [per se] but only if you do not take into consideration the mayor’s “mistruths, half-truths and outright lies” as covering up incompetence.
The way the mayor parsed the ESM contracts in order to circumvent City Council’s approval did not break the letter of the law, but he broke the spirit of the law. Is that not one form of corruption?
For those who have the slightest misgivings about why the mayor must go, please consider the following quotations from those who have resisted “other” tyrants.
Personally, I’m not sure if I’d go so far to say that our mayor is “the devil”, but I’m convinced that he acts like one of his agents.
“When the state insists on being totalitarian, e.g., when it considers itself a philosophy of life and insists on forcing its views on others, then, according
to Luther, the devil is on the loose. When the state acts that way then it claims for itself the glory which belongs to the Holy and puts itself in God’s place; in short, it becomes the anti-Christ”. — Eivind Berggrav
“When the Beowulf enters a village, the peasants have the obligation to slay him; should they fail to do so, they will incur guilt”. — Martin Luther
“Civil courage can only grow out of the free responsibility of free men… It depends on a God who demands responsible action in a bold venture of faith, and who promises forgiveness and consolation to the man who becomes a sinner in that venture”. — Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Here I [we] stand, I [we] can do no other.” — Martin Luther
December 13th, 2008 at 10:27 pmJay, I have a hard time with the concept that the Mayor is the devil or even the agent of the devil. It’s not as if we are dealing with a scenario like the Governor of Illinois here in Toledo. Do I agree with him on all issues? No. Would I have voted for him had I lived in Toledo during the last election? No.
Bottom line is Toledo residents had a choice in the primary. They opted to make it a Ford versus Carty repeat. The last recall effort despite being promoted on a regular basis by the very same media source in front of this effort, failed. Despite the revenge factor that some feel is something important to them, no one has ever explained what would really be gained by recalling the Mayor for three months. All you’d do is have Mark Sobczak or perhaps someone else since the political scrambling would take place if this actually did get enough signatures, who be Mayor for three months and will have spent time, money and energy that could be spent making sure that when Carty runs again, someone else beats him instead of focusing on three months. This effort has probably done more to inspire him to run again than making him back down. He’s been handed the “Carty versus the Out of Town Naysayers” soap box with the way this whole thing has been handled.
Blaming the Mayor for all of the problems in this area forgets the Commissioners, City Council, the Governor and a whole host of others. It’s like blaming Bush for the current situation our country is in. Neither man is that powerful…
