Fallen Timbers versus Wal-Mart versus Krogers & Traditions…
I ventured out to Fallen Timbers today, it was actually the first time I’d ever been there to get two specific gifts I needed and I decided to go there rather than face Franklin Park (okay Westfield Shopping Center). I was surprised it really wasn’t that busy, there was no parking in front of the stores but there was plenty in the Dillard’s lot. The three stores we went in to (I had my youngest with me and so two stops became three) were not busy at all. The next stop was the Wal-Mart on Glendale, not only was the parking lot packed but the store was so busy that people were waiting for carts.
Then off to Krogers where I needed a prescription and a few other things, also the one on Glendale, believe it or not, they were totally out of white frosting, apparently they don’t carry the Jiffy brand, business there was brisk and carts were also in demand but a shorter wait time.
One thing all three locations shared was really grouchy people; evidently their Christmas spirit had not yet entered their being yet…
I succumbed to pressure and did buy a small tree, a live Norfolk Island Pine that was pre-decorated…Next comes some cookie baking, fudge making and then a trip out to the airport tonight to pick up my oldest daughter. If all goes well we will get back here in time to go to Midnight Mass, how many of my bunch joins me for that part of what Christmas is to me, depends on the year.
I hope that whatever your traditions are for the Christmas season or for Chanukah that you celebrate the true meaning of what the season is for you.
Thanx Lisa….you have had a busy day….
I live near Westgate….so Costco is my “repeat” destination….quite busy around noonish….drove by Franklin Park….very busy…heavy traffic….crazy drivers….is it midnight yet?
I have not yet been to Fallen Timbers….
Does anyone remember when the FP Mall location was an airport? Just wondering…..
Merry Christmas….Happy Holidays….
December 24th, 2008 at 5:54 pmAs I read the story of your day I couldn’t help but think that if your name was Bernadette Noe these adventures would likely be published on the front page of tomorrow’s Blade!
Happy Holidays to you, and thank you again for the work you do.
December 24th, 2008 at 7:37 pmEEK VoR there was a suspicious person following me…maybe it was a Blade photographer (lol).
Tom, I don’t remember an airport being there, my dad was a pilot but I can’t say I recall ever landing or taking off from there.
The design of Fallen Timbers is very nice looking, it’s just not really as conducive to shopping in inclement weather as an inside Mall is.
December 24th, 2008 at 7:41 pmI have to go back to another post and say I did not get the 2k diamond ring I wanted Santa to bring me, but I did get a nice sweater and a DVD of “It’s A Wonderful Life (in black and white). I am watching the movie with one of my kids right now(on tv.) My husband bought me the DVD to view forever. I would have cried if I got the ring I wanted but I had tears of the gift he bought me. I hope everyone has a joyfull season and a better New Year.
December 24th, 2008 at 8:52 pmI drove the south end today, there were very few shoppers. I stopped in Kroger to pick a few last minute items and was in and out in ten minutes.

Yes, I remember when there was an airfield at Franklin Park. My buddy and I used to pick up a few dollars washing private planes there.
Season’s greetings to all.
December 25th, 2008 at 1:28 pmI think it was an airfield at one time, although it was never very busy.
December 26th, 2008 at 11:39 ami remember after the airfield….i used to ice skate there in the winter
December 27th, 2008 at 1:16 amFallen Timbers is a nice place to walk around in the Summer, so is Levis Commons.
I had to run into WaMart real quick the week before Christmas (for treats for my kids’ Christmas party which ended up being a wasted trip since school was canceled on that Friday). Anyway… my cashier was very friendly, which is rare for Wal*Mart.
