Unemployment rate in Ohio in September 6.9%
18 Oct 2008
Unemployment numbers released for the State of Ohio on Friday for September were 6.9 % (seasonally adjusted to) 7.2% down from August’s of 7.1% (seasonally adjusted to) 7.4% – the County numbers will be released on Tuesday. Unemployment for the nation for September is 6.0% down a slight bit from August’s 6.1% – the seasonally adjusted numbers were both 6.1%. Earlier this month the Bureau of Labor reported the September breakdown for the nation.
And, boys & girls, the Toledo Metro’s figures are 9% in July and 8.7% in August. WHOPPEE!
Which is precisely why in 2 weeks, I’ll be moving to warmer climes and 5.4% unemployment!
So much for ‘Toledo Pride’ and Toledo being ‘Business Friendly’!
October 19th, 2008 at 8:17 amthese figures only represent the applications for unemployment, not the figures of those whose unemployment ran out and cannot re-apply and have yet to find a job…
October 19th, 2008 at 9:00 amAnd you’re right, Brian. If they could somehow add in those figures, it’d be much, much higher.
October 19th, 2008 at 9:18 amNumbers for that are in the Bureau of Labor report.
October 19th, 2008 at 10:33 amWell that’s what you get with a democrat in charge of the state and democrats perpetually running Toledo. And please don’t perpetuate the myth that the unemployment numbers aren’t right because of discouraged workers no longer looking for work. These workers are counted by the BLS in a separate statistic, and this number is not historically unusual at all, i.e. the 6.1% national unemployment figure now can be compared to that of other times in history. Also, workers whose benefits ran our are still counted as unemployed, as long as they are still looking for work.
October 19th, 2008 at 6:15 pmrightwingprof…you spoke like a true Republican blaming the Democrats, how typical and pointless. Most of you know and should know that the state of Ohio has been in a mess long before Strickland went into office.

where in Toledo are you going to find a job outside of bagging groceries and giving totals in a fast food line?
or do you think 6.9% of the community is waiting for one of the 93.1% to get fired from Jeep, Libby Glass, etc?
if you’re not filling out paperwork, you’re not in the system.
