United Way to build new downtown location
If you head over and look at the cover of this week’s Toledo Free Press, you’ll get an idea of what will replace the current One Stranahan Square structure. In a decision that many have faced, renovate or build new, the United Way has opted to demolish and rebuild since their current and future needs do not require a building of the same size. The additional story from the Toledo Free Press includes more information and an image of the proposed site plan as well as contains information on some of the current tenants, and other information related to the plan.
The Blade article has some but not all of the same information United Way’s plans. Readers of Glass City Jungle know why Baldemar Velasquez was absent from the vote, both articles mention the public forum on this that will be held on Tuesday, August 12th at 5:00 p.m.
It sounds like the United Way has taken a measured and reasoned approach to responsible use of charitably contributed money. (Would that others would learn from their example.) It is their building after all, and the final decision will be theirs. Those who object are free to vote with their contributions (or lack thereof).
August 8th, 2008 at 12:16 pmI agree Tim, but the building is different looking. It’s too bad it will be torn down.
August 8th, 2008 at 1:45 pmWhy would any organization consider building in downtown Toledo, when there is so much empty office space available? UW could negotiate a long-term lease, with improvements, and be free of maintenance issues.
August 8th, 2008 at 6:42 pmThe united way isn’t as poor as it pretends to be. My ex-wife had $18 grand in hospital bills and had her teeth redone…all courtessy of the united way…before she went back to Europe to live! She wasn’t even a citizen! She took advantage of the program and said “so long suckers”!
August 8th, 2008 at 7:10 pmScrew the united way. They’ll never get a dime from me again.
Sepp, what United Way program did she take advantage of (my family could use this “program”
?
