Wagoner Announces Funding for Small Business Incubators
Columbus – In an effort to provide continued support for small, start-up businesses, State Senator Mark Wagoner (R-Toledo) announced today that the state Controlling Board approved the release of $1 million in Thomas Edison Program grants for two Lucas County partnerships working to assist in the development of new small business ventures.
The funds approved today will directly benefit the Edison Industrial Systems Center, Inc. and the Regional Growth Partnership, both receiving $800,000 and $200,000 respectively. Serving as an Edison Technology Incubator, both entities provide business and technical services to technology-based start-up companies. These incubators help create and retain jobs, increase the survival rate of young technology-based companies and utilize the resources of Ohio’s academic and business institutions to meet the unique needs of this particular business sector.
“Entrepreneurs serve as the backbone of our local economies,” Wagoner said. “Providing these essential services will not only help get these start-up technology-based businesses off the ground, but they will also hopefully inspire future business men and women to pursue their dreams of owning their own small business, directly contributing to the advancement of Ohio’s workforce.”
The Ohio Department of Development established the Edison Technology Incubator Program to assist technology-oriented start-ups during their concept definition and development stages. Incubators allow entrepreneurs to focus their limited resources on developing their product and/or service by drawing upon the proven expertise and support of the incubator.
