Some of you have noticed the light blogging…
I’m behind on some of the things I’d like to cover, some I will cover regardless, some probably I won’t be able to get to. My priorty the past week has been on my family, especially with my oldest daughter graduating from college. She’ll be leaving for the San Jose area in three weeks so between that, yesterday’s graduation, her upcoming party and departure that’s been where my focus has been.
One of the harder videos I created was for yesterday, striving for perfection and while not reaching that, I came to the conclusion that no matter how many hours I spent in deciding which photos or which songs, I’d never be able to reflect how proud I am of my daughter or how much I love her. As I sat listening to the graduation ceremony where it was stressed that Ohio needs these engineers in their various fields to stay here, I also know that while my daughter is now part of the “brain drain” leaving Toledo that the offer that she is leaving town for was not even close to being available here in Ohio. As hard as it will be for her to leave? Forsaking the opportunity of a lifetime would be something she’d regret the rest of her life. Hopefully she will return to this area, that’s her goal but for now? May all of her dreams come true.
Not “almost” tearful here….LOL!! I know that you are SO proud of her, but she wouldn’t be the young woman she is without the wonderful mother that you are! CONGRATULATIONS EMILY! I am so VERY proud of you! Best of luck to you on San Jose!
May 4th, 2008 at 5:48 pmYes, I hope that San Jose offers opportunities not available in the Rust Belt.
May 4th, 2008 at 6:28 pmShe has graduated with a degree in what field?
May 4th, 2008 at 8:06 pmMechanical Engineering
May 4th, 2008 at 8:18 pmLisa – I can understand the angst you are feeling, but in the big scheme of things Emily will only continue to do well and make you proud. It’s hard when they move away for the first time, but you will never lose her as your little girl.
Please give her my congratulations. I know she will be a success wherever she goes – just look at her mother!
May 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pmHolly she said “thank you and she loves you”.
Mike, it’s a great opportunity for her she had a huge number of job offers to decide from.
Carol, I agree, I had hoped that all of mine would stay in this area and it was hard for me to tell her to take the San Jose job. Her only reason for not taking it would have been for me, which I couldn’t let happen. Like I told her though, most of our conversations are on phone or through instant messaging so that won’t change…
