Should we be happy we are back on the high risk of a terrorist attack list?

01 Feb 2008

That was the question I asked myself as I read, Toledo to rejoin list of cities, areas eligible to apply for anti-terror money.

Toledo received Homeland Security funding every year from 2002-06, but was dropped from the list of cities eligible to apply last year.

Other regions added to the list this year are: Rochester, N.Y.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Austin and Round Rock, Texas; Baton Rouge, La.; Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwalk, Conn.; the Hartford, Conn., region; Louisville and Jefferson County in Kentucky and an area across the Ohio River in Indiana; Nashville, Davidson County and Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Richmond, Va.; Riverside, San Bernardino and Ontario, Calif.; Salt Lake City; and San Juan, Caguas, and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Last year Toledo was one of four cities dropped, along with Louisville, Kentucky, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Omaha, Nebraska with Tucson, Arizona, Providence, Rhode Island, El Paso, Texas, and Norfolk, Virgina being listed instead.

Maybe we are back on the list due to Rev. Floyd Rose returning to the city. (runs under the table)

I asked myself the same question when I saw this story. I wouldn’t mind forgoing those funds if it meant we were classified as “safe.” However, it’s nice to have the funds just in case…. Definately a Catch-22.

I wonder if Marcy Kaptur deserves props for getting Toledo another slice of the Homeland Security pie…mmm mmm good!
I think Carty’s dog doesn’t have a kevlar vest yet.

<ponders how we wound up so high on the list? Major attractions that hordes of people gather at?? ….. High Value targets??…… Oh sure, there are nuke plants on the fringes, but seriously, other than being an easy target what would they accomplish? Blowing up empty buildings? It’s like when a tree falls in the forest, does anyone notice?

Chad – Lake Erie, a major water source… multiple ports…. two major nuke plants in close proximity…. Terrorists aren’t just about “blowing up” buildings.

    Also two medium sized refineries.
