    Lisa Renee,

Thank you to you and to Michael for allowing me the opportunity to speak to people. It will probably be my only public statement on the subject for the foreseeable future.

No disrespect to Maggie, but Michael, Ben and Lisa did a great job perhaps they should do Eye on Toledo from now on. Maggie would be better replacing either Brian or Fred because one of them is enough for this town.

Brian Schwartz, I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to say “Hi” but I’m glad you called in. I think what happened was overly harsh but I know that won’t change anything.

Brian Maxson – thank you! I didn’t know they were going to have a podcast up.

Rockets, thanks but I don’t think that would ever happen, it’s more fun for me just to be able to go on once in a while.

    Gil Petersen Says:

While you are all hi-5′ing yourselves and stroking your egos, none of you have the courtesy, class or brains to thank the one person that made it happen: the Program Director Brian Wilson.

It takes a pro as well as a class act to allow people on his station he disagrees with. I know for a fact zero gets on SPD without his personal approval. You won’t get it on tv or in the Blah. Of course that would be just fine for rockets dud – the mayor’s best boy toy.

It was Wilson’s decision to put Maggie on and that was a huge improvement. Wilson picked Miller to be a substitute. I’d bet Wilson had to approve the “guest list” as well as the subject last night.

Disagree with his politics and his personality all you like – Wilson is the best thing to happen to Toledo talk radio since forever. Too bad so most of the posters here don’t have the guts to appreciate how good it’s been for getting Toledo talkng and thinking for a change. Toledo is damn lucky to have SPD programmed the way it is.

I know he doesn’t read the blogs but – thanks Brian. Great job dragging Toledo radio into this century.

  13. 13
    Rockets Man Says:

Gil Petersen is officially Brian Wilson’s boy toy.

  14. 14
    LisaRenee Says:

Brian Wilson does read the blogs, he’s commented here in the past and I’m sure he had to approve the guest list. I don’t think people being nice to me about me doing something I don’t often do which did generate some people to listen that don’t normally listen is a bad thing. I don’t think Brian Wilson would be offended that he wasn’t mentioned, but if it makes you feel better Gil? Thank you Brian Wilson for allowing me to go on WSPD.

  15. 15
    LisaRenee Says:

And…thank you Fred, because he’s commented here before and thank you Maggie too, I hope she’s having a good vacation. While I’m also thanking people, thank you to Shaggy, Dan and Kooz and everybody else at the station yesterday for making the show happen. If I’m going to start thanking everyone I don’t want anyone to feel left out.

    just wondering Says:

Brian Wilson is often immature and inflammatory for a “class act”. His constant description of Mayor Finkbeiner as a “pantload” in illustrative of a debate that a 10 year old boy might engage in when he runs out of semi-intelligent things to say. Surely, the great Brian Wilson doesn’t have to engage in name-calling to get his points across, but wait, he does.

As for Maggie Thurber, there is nothing all that great about her, and her hiring merely confirms that Wilson will consider law breakers for positions with his station as long as they convey the same type of narrow, divisive banter that all of the talk personnel on SPD exhibit.

Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity are all hate-mongers who dupe uninformed listeners into believing the vitriolic venom they spew at their adversaries.

All that needs to be said further about Brian Wilson can be noted by addressing his friendship with Ann Coulter. Anyone who calls that sad excuse for a human being his friend has more problems than can be fixed in a lifetime.

And no, I don’t listen to WSPD on a regular basis. Just once in a while to hear how the uneducated and simplistic think. And I especially avoid all sponsors of their programming with my shopping and entertainment dollars.

    LisaRenee Says:

Let’s please not degrade this thread that was supposed to be a fun one into a discussion of who likes WSPD and some of the radio personalities and who does not. I realize that when Gil wrote his statements in support of Brian Wilson that there would be the temptation for some of you to respond but…We now have a pro Brian post and an anti-Brian post.

There are times I listen to WSPD and while I don’t always agree with what is said, there are also times when I learn things that is not being reported elsewhere.

Yes we do! I say we all fantasize that we live on a warm and tropical Island with warm breezes and ocean waves lulling us into a state of peace….LOL! Sorry, couldn’t resist!

    Brian Maxson Says:

I’m not saying anything, Holly, but it’s really nice outside today.

    Thermometer shows 82 degrees!

  22. 22
    Gil Petersen Says:

    OK – I get it:

rocket dip hates anyone who posts a contrary opinion. Typical liberal: zero intellect or reason. No wonder he loves the idiots – they have so much in common. Emphasis on “common”.

Anyone posting anything postive about WSPD, Fred and-or Brian is subject to ridicule. Typical of that elitiest, brain-dead mentality – but how you all come running when you get a chance to appear on the Evil SPD.

    — I don’t think people being nice to me about me doing something I don’t often do which did generate some people to listen that don’t normally listen is a bad thing. –

And I don’t think you got my point. The opportunity to do “something (you) don’t often do…” was made possible by someone who is regularly trashed on your blog whenever his name is mentioned, along with WSPD, Fred and now Maggie – all because they represent a political opinion at odds with yours and your little friends. Your gratuitious sarcasm – “thank you to Shaggy, Dan and Kooz and everybody else at the station yesterday for making the show happen. If I’m going to start thanking everyone I don’t want anyone to feel left out” just reveals your own poorly disguised prejudice.

That’s fine. Go for it. It’s your blog. But as I posted originally: no class. No courtesy – until you’re outted for it.

For any new readers you may get courtsey of your “doing something” appearance on WSPD, I wanted the hypocrisy of your blog to get a little publicity too.

Back to your “fun” discussion. It IS a lot nicer outside than here.

  23. 23
    LisaRenee Says:

Gil, you came on to a thread with the purpose of trying to stir things up. I addressed your concern, thanked those who were involved since you took issue with that and tried to stop this from turning into a bash Brian Wilson or Maggie Thurber or WSPD thread.

You’ve been here before, you should know how I operate, but if you don’t? I try to keep the bashing to a minimum. It serves no purpose and if we really are going to thank someone for me being on air that would be Michael Miller, since it was his idea and I had fun, which guess what? It is my blog and sometimes I get to have fun. Trying to now insult me isn’t going to make me do anything except write if you don’t like my blog? That’s cool with me. I’m perfectly fine with my level of class and courtesy, especially how I treat people who come here no matter how they treat me.

    Not Again Says:

Gil you need to stop taking things so personally. I get attacked for my views but you don’t see me whinning about it. It is not my web site. I just take it and move on to the next sqabble. Chill out dude.

  25. 25
    Brian Maxson Says:

And it is apparent that there are all kinds of personalities with a differing perspective on how society should/does function relative to status-quo.

Gil, contrary to popular belief, all Brian’s “job” is to create revenue. I’ll bet that if you look at the arbitron ratings after Maggie you’ll find those numbers much higher than before she took the helm.

So if you want to cast stones, Brian should be grateful people of Lisa’s caliber are willing to participate, for rating sake.

It truly is amazing how these sort such as Gil and LD have friends out there in reality. Antagonizing chumps that truly lack appreciating debate and wallow in envy.

I mean, to have some twit describe to me how to construct a sentence just cracks me up. You got some loser that cries because you overflow with credibility. So trite in the grand scheme of things, I guess.

    But entertaining.

Let’s compare Brian Wilson’s use of the word “pantload” to the mayor’s use of the word “baboon”.

Both *could* be seen as being unfair, derogatory and insulting if people so choose, but there’s one major difference.

The mayor merely makes an assertion while Brian Wilson uses argumentation based on facts and evidence to show how and why something is a “pantload”.

“Pantload” is a conclusion, whereas “baboon” is a premise and that’s the difference.

“Pantload” is being applied to specific facts and evidence, whereas “baboon” is applied to vague, generalities.

If people bother to look, Brian has a methodology that is quite transparent. I won’t give away what I think it happens to be [my pockets are not very deep], but those who fail to understand it will be rubbed the wrong way.

Of course, as an amateur, I could be wrong about this. But being the reasonable person I am–show me. I’m listening!

  27. 27
    LisaRenee Says:

Jay, I never thought I’d see the day when we would debate the use of “pantload” versus “baboon”. It will be interesting to see people think.

    just wondering Says:

    Jay Ott-

One can make his or her point without referring to another human being as a “pantload”, over and over again. The same can be said about “baboon” (certainly a strange choice of words). Perhaps Mr. Wilson should use his intellect to do a bit better than the type of locker room banter he resorts to because he is opposed to the Mayor.

Look, I’ve known the Mayor much longer than Mr. Wilson. He is certainly not a perfect person, but, then again, none of us are. Taking a discussion down to a level where one refers to another as a “pantload” is just plain juvenile.

  31. 31
    jayott Says:

Thanks for your last sentence. It demonstrates the main point I was trying to make that in the end that you [all rational people in general] have to use words to describe something.

You yourself used “juvenile”, some use the word “pantload”, others use something else. It makes no difference what the euphemism being used is.

As long as it’s the conclusion of an argument and not the premise. If the word being used starts out as the premise, it’s an ad hominem.

Your argument: “Taking a discussion down to a level where one refers to another as a “pantload”

Your conclusion: “it’s just plain juvenile.”

Now just substitute the word “pantload” in place of “juvenile” in your last sentence. Your argument falls apart.

You claim that it’s wrong to “bring the discussion down to a level” What kind of level? A juvenile level. What kind of level? A pantload. There’s no difference. Different words but both are used as a description and conclusion of an argument.

To argue against something then proceed to do what you argue against is self-defeating.

  32. 32
    just wondering Says:

    Jay Ott

Although this is increasingly off topic for which I apologize, I have to disagree with your conclusion. Juvenile is an accepted word in all major dictionaries used in this case an an adjective, while “pantload” implies a load of (I’ll let you fill in the blank) and is at best a slang term to mean someone is full of excrement.

When someone resorts to utilizing slang terms during their rants merely for emphasis, especially an educated person, it demeans their very argument and reduces their credibility IMHO.

Look, most of the time I listen to CD’s, music stations, financial shows, and only occasionally listen to WSPD. In the times that I do, Mr. Wilson strikes me as an arrogant and pompous personality, which is fine since he’s playing to the right wing audience which accepts that. To me, though, using slang terms repeatedly takes the discussion down to level you might find in a locker room and I would think his listeners would expect or demand more.

Thankfully ( for the moderator) and the rest of the readers, this will be my last entry on this subject and I’m sure we can all be glad on some level for that fact. Thank you.
