Chris Cillizza is debating the debate too…
As I read the article written by Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post, questions continued to come to my mind about why didn’t the CNN debate end up being “the one” and why was NBC chosen. I think part of the interesting “debate over the debates” is what happened with CNN? Hillary Clinton agreed to debate on CNN in a debate in Ohio in conjunction with the Ohio Democratic Party but that plan appears to have fallen through with the debate now being planned in Cleveland and hosted by NBC.
Why did the Obama campaign decide to not be involved with the CNN/Ohio Democratic Party debate? Does this have something to do with some of the previous rumblings that the Ohio Democratic Party was leaning more towards helping Hillary Clinton since everyone knows Governor Ted Strickland has endorsed her?
While the Ohio Democratic Party has not openly stated they are supporting one candidate over the other, they’ve said the opposite, it’s been blogged in several different locations that it was felt that the Obama campaign was not ‘feeling the love’ from the Ohio Democratic Party. One example of this can be found on The Daily Bellwether related to what the Obama campaign felt was a stall on the part of the ODP in providing delegate names.
I can’t find the article that clued me in but this event in Columbus supposedly has 100,000 rooms tied up and that was one of the issues:

February 8th, 2008 at 1:54 pmoops – that’s the wrong year – 2003 – but I did see something about the same event at the same time this year being an issue – oy the painkillers are totally messing with me.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:54 pmOk – here it is for 2008:

February 8th, 2008 at 1:55 pmThat would explain Columbus not being the location but not why the CNN debate didn’t happen at another location.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:07 pmyeah – don’t know – maybe it’s a party-alignment thing CNN likes to do? no idea to be honest – Russert’s JCU connection? just throwing all that out – also – interestingly, I would think that Cleveland would be preferential to Obama but a friend I spoke with this morning thinks Cleveland is a friendlier venue for Clinton. I think this all goes to show just how split people are.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:11 pmmore people will see it via broadcast TV than cable.
February 8th, 2008 at 3:11 pmMaybe…but now it sounds as if the whole thing might be off if NBC is involved…
February 8th, 2008 at 3:21 pmFrank, you sould be doing somthing more productive!

February 8th, 2008 at 3:53 pmRyan, are you suggesting my blog isn’t productive?

February 8th, 2008 at 3:56 pmO, Lisa of course not I love your blog and you.
I am suggesting Frank is not productive!
Not that I am being productive at the moment, but I am not in a position of power… wait neither is he or any of the “Four Horsemen” for that matter!
This is how we get off topic! Sorry
February 8th, 2008 at 4:28 pmlol Ryan, yes that’s how we get off topic but let’s remember City Council is only a part time position though they put in much more than 20 hours a week. They also work nights and weekends…So Frank’s entitled to have some blogging fun.
