The Truth: Putting aside satire, Dear Jack and Mom’s House…
In this week’s The Sojourner’s Truth, Fletcher Word first mentions last week’s satirical piece then puts the satire aside to discuss the GEM Academy plan. No new column from Former Mayor Jack Ford this week, though the premiere for his and Cynthia’s television show is tomorrow morning. It’s said one of the topics he’s going to cover is health, and he’s made public the fact that he’s been in dialysis for the past seven months. I knew several months ago, but I felt it was a private matter that was up to the former Mayor to reveal or not to reveal. I give him kudo’s for coming forward and hope that people do pay more attention to diabetes and other chronic health issues.
While there is no column from Jack, there is a letter to Jack written by Warren Woodberry, where it’s expressed some disappointment that Jack has not used his political column at the Truth to focus on local education issues. The editorial note should clear up any speculation Mr. Woodberry and others have expressed as to what the focus of the “My View” column was designed for. If you were only going to read one article in this week’s Truth, I’d ask that you read Mom’s House: A Choice for Life Should Not Be a Choice for Poverty. I wish our community had several “Mom’s Houses” as there is a huge need for what they are providing, but since that’s probably an impossible dream at this point in time, please remember them when it comes to your holiday donations and beyond the holidays.
