In District 46…Will it be Sears facing Dansack?
20 Dec 2007
At this point in time according to today’s Blade, Sears 1st in line for open House District 46 seat, Sylvania City Council President Barbara Sears appears to be the Republican candidate for District 46. Earlier rumors that Lynn Olman was considering a return don’t appear to have been proven true at least at this point. On the Democratic side the only candidate who is collecting signatures is Mark Dansack. While it’s looking as if Sears will not have a primary contender, it’s not so clear on the Democratic side…
Lisa,
After careful consideration and conversations with supporters and family members, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration as the Democratic candidate for the 46th District State Representative race.
I believe we must work to focus on ending the stranglehold that the Republican Party has had on state government. Their policies have led to our state’s position as a low growth, high tax state in the last 12 to 16 years. Perfect examples of these policies are the CAT tax which taxes businesses on their gross receipts and led to our first tax on groceries since the great depression and also the permanent increase in the state sales tax which negatively affects every day men and women trying to build their own “American Dream” in Ohio.
We must put an end to the constant “economic insecurity” which has dominated our NW Ohio region as we have seen jobs lost, factories closing, and little in the way of innovative programs out of the GOP majority to reverse this vicious trend.
In closing, I want to thank those who have supported me and urged me to run again. Also, Lisa, I would like to thank you for the work you do and for the publicity you created for me in my past run for office.
My best wishes to all for a great holiday season and a New Year blessed with health and happiness.
Mark Dansack
December 22nd, 2007 at 2:08 pmSorry to hear that Mark is not going to make a run in 2008. He joins Jim Nusbaum, Carol Contrada, Sandy Isenberg and Mark Leutke on the sidelines. They are all fine Democrats with different strengths and weaknesses. I guess the Ohio House Dem. Caucus has a pretty strong candidate lined up. From the names previously out in the public media (and still out there), it could be former Commissioner and Maumee Mayor Harry Barlos or former state rep. candidate (from the 80’s) Darlene Dunn. Barlos would appear to be more electable and have the edge(given the fact that he has run and won several times). However, he may still be on the outs with several D party leaders. Time will tell. Maybe we will even have an old fashioned primary to see who will face a first time candidate in Sylvania City Councilman Barbara Sears.
