Glass City Republican Club?

04 Aug 2007

I feel so out of the loop, I never heard of the group and it doesn’t appear in googling them I can find anything else about them with the exception of today’s Blade article about Joe Kidd running as an Independent. It is not the first time this has happened though where there was a republican group out there that endorsed a candidate that we later learned more about, Jon Stainbrook when he was running for a State Central District Committee Seat was endorsed by a group called the Grass Roots Republican Party Coalition that at the time, I could find nothing on, then later I discovered that Paula Pennypacker was one of the founders of the group.

So, if any of you out there are members of this new group? I’d love to hear more about it.

First I heard of the group too. Being a candidate and a full time resident of the Glass City I never received an invite to screen or to become a member, so it would be interesting for the group to reveal membership or to talk more about their mission. I don’t think Mr. Kidd was sincere in attacking the Republican Party. He has not been involved for a while and I don’t think he knows what has changed. As a matter of fact, he stopped being involved when I started to become involved and that has been almost 4 years now.

Why is Joe Kidd even the least bit interesting? The Blade must have extra ink and paper left over when they decide to run articles on this person.

He is not relevant, it appears as though his residence in District 2 is sketchy at best. I don’t receive the Blade but if I did I could line my neighbor’s bird cage with the articles on Joe Kidd.

Just Wondering: For someone who doesn’t find Joe Kidd the least bit interesting, you’re awfully interested in knocking him.

I saw him on Conklin & Co. today. He said there was a public hearing regarding his residency. He didn’t mention that the committe hearing the matter decided his residency was “sketchy”. In fact, they agreed that he is a resident.

I have the audio from the hearing, I haven’t finished listening to it – it’s 48 minutes long. Hearings like that are available to request under Ohio Law the same as one can request campaign finance reports, etc.

I didn’t get a chance to watch Conklin & Company this morning but I will record it when it’s replayed tonight, then I’ll most likely blog about what was on.

See, Lisa? That’s why we keep you around: to make those requests and report back to us.

Terry Shankland was on the show, too. He says this is his last run for office because his wife won’t let him run again. Good to know who’s in charge.

Lily White: Perhaps if Joe Kidd did something to merit feature articles, I would have a different viewpoint. We’re all aware of his role in bringing down Tom Noe.

To rehash this over and over again is not news. Therefore, he should not be featured in a “news” paper.

I suggest he crawl back under the rock he again appeared from beneath. Thank you.

I must have missed the articles you’re talking about. All I’ve seen is reports that he’s running in District 2 and that there was a residency hearing and it was determined that he meets the requirements. What else have you seen?

Or is your complaint just that the reports make mention of the Noe mess when they report on Kidd? If that’s it, I think it’s just standard journalism to bring up the touchstones readers/viewers will have regarding the person at the heart of the report. But maybe you could contact the media and ask them not to continue mentioning it because those of us who are paying attention already know it.

It won’t do any good to do that, of course, because they’re also reporting news to those who haven’t been paying attention, and those who’ve just moved here, and those who read/view their reports but don’t live here. It’d be nice, though, if we could tailor news to our own tastes and interests.

It may be considered beating a dead, decomposing horse, but with the Blade, reiterating past events and giving press to those unworthy of it, has been part of their modus operandi.

Most likely, Kidd would never have turned Noe in if their relationship hadn’t turned sour. Doesn’t that make him an accessory before the fact?

Let’s face it, Kidd is not the hero that he has been portrayed as being. I’d rather hear about some of the new faces running for District 2 councilperson, including Jeff Simpson, Mario Campos, and Steve Leggett.

Lastly, as a politician, Jon Stainbrook makes a good musician.

Enough ink wasted on these losers.

I don’t much care why people do the right thing, just so they do it, even if it takes a while to get there. People evolve — at least the best of us do.

Is Stainbrook running for something? I recall seeing his name in past years, but not lately. I suspect I’d like him better as a politician because I don’t like most modern music. I’m a Cole Porter kinda girl.

I haven’t seen anything about Jeff, Mario, or Steve lately (but I don’t pay a whole lot of attention because that’s not my district). I did see the self-defense photo opportunity Karen had recently and there was coverage today of a guy whose name I can’t spell. He had a press conference at Dave’s restaurant where he talked about small business being big business. I wasn’t sure that a restaurant was the best venue for that fella.
