Dedication ceremony tomorrow yet…
Continuing in the saga of the $220 million Veterans’ Glass City Skyway bridge and the lack of specific details on the Dedication Ceremony…The actual website www.lookuptoledo.org doesn’t have updated information either. It states it will be provided:
Dedication Ceremony Committee will announce the agenda of the Dedication Ceremony as details become finalized.
Considering it’s tomorrow? I think someone forgot to list the finalized details on the website…the one and only news release listed is from May.
All we do know for sure is you have to take a bus to get on the actual bridge and you are not allowed to bring anything to sit on or even a cooler. Which means people are expected to stand in the summer heat from 8:00-8:30 a.m. until after the parade at 12:30. Water may be available but it’s not known what charge or where. Restroom facilities will only be available via taking a bus back to the old Riverside Hospital location where I’ve been told Port A Lets have been placed.
If the expected 20,000 really does show up for this dedication event? The amount of buses that are going to be necessary to transport that number of people and all of the other issues that involve having that many people not be able to sit, hydrate and meet nature’s call should be a very interesting experience…
I was intending to take my whole family to this shindig but given the scenario you present (most of which I have thought about all week) I’m just gonna go myself – assuming I can get up at a decent time. I’ll take a bus up and then walk back down the bridge if I feel it’s taking a long time to get off there. What are they gonna do? Arrest me? (a little inside joke if you read Lisa’s post earlier this week about the 2 photographer’s arrested at the rally in ‘05) I really don’t care about the ceremony and all that windbag stuff I simply want to take the one opportunity I have to get on that bridge to look around, look down at the river and take lots of pictures.
June 22nd, 2007 at 8:05 pmAgain, assuming I make it there, I’ll have a full report of what I saw and heard on my blog.
I want to hear Strickland and see some of the vets I know who are going to be a part of the ceremony but I think your decision to not take the kids is a smart one. My husband has the same dream of being able to take some good shots too so hopefully between the two of you? We’ll have quite a few pictures to enjoy.
ps…if you get arrested I’ll make sure we have witnesses.

June 22nd, 2007 at 8:36 pmWas the closing of some parts of I-280 today somehow related to this bridge thing? Traffic was awful.
